why dirtmama?
I love dirt. Dirt is essential for many of the activities I enjoy - camping, cycling, running, hiking, backpacking, walking my dog, and supping. Dirt is vital to the very existence of life. The earth is teeming with microbial life which has a synergistic existence with every living thing. We even have trillions of microbes in and on our body which outnumber our human cells ten to one! Without dirt, we would not have what we need to survive - the plants and animals that nourish us depend on the powerful contribution of the unique ecosystem of dirt.
I love being a Mama. It was the health of my children that catapulted me on this journey. The discovery that the quality of what you eat really does impact both behavior and health resulted in many incremental dietary changes in our family: the addition of whole foods and the reduction and elimination of preservatives, additives and highly processed foods. Subsequently, I have spent the majority of my adult life passionately researching and learning about anything related to nutrition and health. My dynamic system of lifestyle and dietary interventions has infused health and joy into my family's life.
To nourish means to nurture....
Nurturing promotes growth toward wholeness: body, mind and spirit.
Nourishing your body isn't about some perfect scientific formula for being thin and avoiding disease. And it isn’t only about eating really healthy food. Nourishing your body encompasses the habits you create that include physical movement, self-care, spirituality, relationships, a satisfying vocation, and yes... nourishing food. Nourishing food honors nature, which in turn honors the body. It is nutritious, visibly appealing, and delicious.
Learn how to thrive. Learn how to savor food, find joy in exercise, and engage from a place of wholeness with family and friends.
